Crape Myrtles

Hardy Crape Myrtles that Thrive

My blog posts and experience are based upon Texas gardening.  However, many of the plants described will also thrive in the zones as designated for the southern United States.  I hope you enjoy these posts and come back often!  Unfortunately most Crape Myrtles do NOT do well in cold climates, however, there are a few that do better than others.

I get all my Crape Myrtles from the Crape Myrtle Guy in Waxahachie through Amazon.

Cold-hardy crape myrtles (Lagerstroemia spp.) are more limited in variety, but there are several cultivars and series specifically bred to survive northern climates, especially in USDA Zones 6 and 7 (and sometimes 5 with protection). These varieties typically die back to the ground in colder winters but reliably regrow and bloom on new wood.
