Seward Johnson was an American sculptor known for his life-size, hyper-realistic bronze statues that depict everyday people in familiar moments—reading newspapers, walking dogs, or enjoying a park bench. His work is celebrated for blurring the line between art and life, inviting public interaction and emotional connection. Seward Johnson AtelierThe Seward Johnson Atelier, based in New Jersey, is a nonprofit organization that continues Johnson’s legacy by maintaining and touring his sculptures, supporting public art, and producing large-scale exhibitions. They focus on figurative works that integrate art into everyday public spaces. Current Exhibition at the Dallas Arboretum (2025)The Dallas Arboretum is currently hosting “Celebrating the Familiar,” an outdoor exhibition of over 30 of Johnson’s bronze sculptures as part of its Dallas Blooms festival. The sculptures are placed throughout the gardens, engaging visitors with lifelike scenes of people in casual, recognizable moments. A centerpiece of the exhibit is “Crossing Paths,” a 20-foot-tall sculpture making its debut outside New Jersey. The exhibit runs through April 10, 2025, and includes guided tours and special events like the “Sounds for Sculpture” concert, offering a multi-sensory art experience. |
