Julia Child Shrub Rose
Julia Child a Texas shrub rose. The leaves are a dark, leathery glossy green. The blossoms are a brilliant yellow. This rose withstands the extreme Texas heat and blooms well in the heat – better than most delicate yellow roses. Works well with Centennial a yellow grandiflora and with this red and yellow climber, Brite Eyes.
A 2006 AARS Winner (All-America Rose Selections), a mark of top performance across varied climates in the U.S.
This is a strong vivid yellow. I really like this rose intrinsically and because it works so well in a garden with perennials and annuals. This is a must have, though, in my experience it is seriously susceptible to Rose Rosette disease.
As you can see the shrub is so pretty. While the leaves are not as thick as a camelia they have that same feel. These are the thickest leaves I have experienced in a rose, and that’s not a bad thing-just different. They are also very glossy.
The Julia Child Rose is a compact Floribunda rose it has a strong licorice-clove fragrance. Its thick leaves allows it to hold on to hydration and work well hot climates like Texas.
Introduced in 2006 by Weeks Roses and named with the permission of the famous chef, this rose has become a garden favorite for its reliability and charm.
