Carefree Beauty Rose (a.k.a. Katy Road Pink)
Carefree Beauty Rose
Carefree Beauty, also known as Katy Road Pink, is another rose introduced by Dr. Griffith Buck. It produces large, semi-double pink flowers with a slight fragrance and an open, arching shrub habit. This rose typically reaches 4–6 feet in height and is widely known for its ability to bloom continuously throughout the growing season.
Adaptation to Texas:
Carefree Beauty is one of the most successful and widely grown roses in Texas. It is exceptionally tolerant of heat and drought, with strong disease resistance and an ability to thrive in various soil types. Its consistent bloom production and ability to withstand the Texas climate make it one of the most recommended landscape roses for the state. It performs especially well in Central and North Texas and can be grown successfully across most regions of the state.
Recognition:
Carefree Beauty is a designated Texas Superstar plant, a program run by Texas A&M AgriLife to highlight high-performing, low-maintenance landscape plants. It has also been widely promoted by rose societies and public gardens throughout the South for its durability, attractiveness, and ease of care. It has become a foundational shrub in many water-wise and pollinator-focused gardens.
